Tile | Quarry tile
Material and structure: Quarry tiles are made of natural clay minerals processed under extreme heat like bricks. They are not glazed like ceramic or porcelain tiles. Finishing texture: Since they are not glazed, the surface is porous and matte. traditionally quarry tile can only be found in two colors: red and grey. However, nowadays using them in a variety of colors for decorative applications is very trendy. *ATTENTION*: in terms of color, you won’t enjoy the variability you might wish for! Common colors are beige, brown, grey, and red. Except for decorative applications, quarry tiles are usually not recommended for walls. Durability: quarry tile has a reputation for its very high durability. Specific advantages: Being pretty durable, water resistant, and slip resistant, they are a very good choice for exterior applications and also in commercial kitchens, industrial workshops or laboratories. Installation: Quarry tile should also be installed on completely flat, even, well-fixated sub-floor. The sub-floor can either be plywood or concrete. The tiles basically get glued to the sub-floor by proper mortar and then they should be grouted. we highly recommend sealing the quarry tiles with a water-based penetrating sealer to make it more resistance against oil, dust, and water stains and high traffic. Weaknesses and limitation: Although using them as back-splash is a new trend, we do not recommend them for above the sink or stove. Cost: Usual price range is between 1.5$ to 4$ per sqft.
